Overnight Komodo Trip 3 Days 2 Nights

Three days and two nights is the ideal length to truly absorb the magic of Komodo National Park and the wider Flores archipelago. Aboard a comfortable live-aboard boat, you’ll wake up anchored in hidden bays, watch the sunrise from Padar Island’s iconic three-bay summit, track Komodo dragons through dry savanna, and swim with manta rays.

This itinerary moves at a relaxed pace — there is time to linger at Pink Beach, snorkel twice a day, and watch stars over the open sea from the boat deck at night. The journey reaches outer reef sites including Castle Rock and Crystal Rock that day-trippers rarely encounter, rewarding you with some of the richest marine biodiversity in the Coral Triangle.

All meals are prepared fresh by the on-board cook using local ingredients. The boat is your floating hotel — anchored each night in a sheltered bay with the sound of the sea as your soundtrack.

Day 1 Padar Island — Sunrise Hike Padar Island is the visual icon of Komodo National Park. The hike to the summit ridge takes 30–45 minutes on a steep but well-marked trail, and the view from the top — three bays in three different colors, separated by sharp volcanic ridgelines — is one of the most photographed landscapes in all of Indonesia. Arriving at sunrise means the light is perfect and the island is yours before the day-trip crowds arrive. Pink Beach (Pantai Merah) — Snorkeling One of only seven pink-sand beaches in the world, Pink Beach earns its color from fragments of red coral mixed into the white sand. The reef begins just meters from shore and teems with sea turtles, reef sharks, clownfish, and parrotfish. After snorkeling, there is free time to swim, relax on the beach, or explore the shoreline before lunch is served on board. Manta Point — Open Water Encounter Manta Point is one of the most reliably productive manta ray sites in Indonesia. Oceanic manta rays with wingspans up to 5 meters congregate here to feed on plankton-rich upwellings between the islands. You enter the water alongside them — no cage, no barrier — for a free-swimming encounter that feels both thrilling and surprisingly peaceful. Overnight at Sea The boat anchors in a sheltered bay as the sun sets. Dinner is prepared fresh on board by the cook — rice, grilled fish, local vegetables, and fruit. After dinner, the deck transforms into a stargazing platform. With no light pollution for miles, the Milky Way is visible with the naked eye on clear nights. Sleep in your cabin or on deck under the stars. Day 2 Batu Bolong / Castle Rock — Outer Reef Snorkeling Batu Bolong is considered one of the top ten dive and snorkel sites in the world. A single isolated rock rising from the sea is ringed by a vertical wall of coral that descends into the deep blue, covered in sea fans, hard corals, and anemones. Strong currents attract dense schools of fish — jackfish, barracuda, trevally — as well as reef sharks that patrol the edges. Castle Rock offers similarly dramatic biodiversity at the convergence of major current channels. Komodo Island — Dragon Trek The largest island in the national park is the primary territory of the Komodo dragon. Your licensed ranger leads the trek through open savanna and dry monsoon forest — the natural habitat these animals have occupied for millions of years. Dragons can be found basking near the ranger station, patrolling water holes, or resting under tamarind trees. The trek is genuinely wild; these animals are not fed or managed for tourism. Rinca Island — Second Dragon Encounter Rinca Island has a higher density of Komodo dragons than Komodo itself, and the landscape is distinctly different — more open, more arid, with sweeping views of the surrounding sea. The dragon population here is less habituated to people, making encounters feel rawer and more unpredictable. You may also spot wild horses, water buffalo, and long-tailed macaques along the trail. Gili Lawa — Sunset Viewpoint (Optional) The boat anchors off Gili Lawa for the evening. The island has a short hiking trail to a hilltop viewpoint where the sunset over the surrounding archipelago is spectacular — layer after layer of islands silhouetted against an orange sky. Guests can hike up or stay on deck. Dinner is served after sunset, and the boat anchors here overnight. Day 3 Crystal Rock — Final Snorkel Crystal Rock is a seamount that barely breaks the surface and is surrounded by some of the clearest, most current-rich water in the park. Giant trevally, batfish, and whitetip reef sharks are common. The strong current brings cold, nutrient-rich water that keeps the coral exceptionally healthy and the visibility often exceeding 20 meters. This is the most exhilarating snorkel stop of the trip. Kanawa Island — Beach Farewell Kanawa is a small, peaceful island near Labuan Bajo with a fringing coral reef and a white-sand beach. It's a gentle, unhurried final stop — perfect for a last swim, a walk along the shore, or simply sitting on the beach with a coffee before the boat heads back to the harbor to end the journey.
